Hello Portland Old Port craft beer drinkers! It’s time to talk about what’s on tap for this weekend. Lot’s of tasty beers from local and away. We are continuously lucky to have such awesome breweries who produce great beer as well as places to pour them.
Novare Res Bier Cafe
It’s that time of year again for Novare to pour Belgian-style beer for 20 days! Starting today, Novare will have the majority of their beloved taps invaded by Belgian beers in an annual event called Belgian Biere Fest. You can find beers like Chimay, Bosteels, De La Senne, Kerkom, and much more throughout the next 20 days.
Belgium is a country that is half the size of Maine with about 180 breweries, so you can assume they love their good craft beer. Belgian beer is known for it’s quality and rarity in the States. Sour, Trappist, and just plain Belgian-styles are some common beer styles that you can expect on tap. Belgian-style beers are sweet, fruity, and dry in flavor.
There is no doubt Novare loves their Belgian beers. They built the bar to resemble a Belgian bier cafe and always have ton of Belgian beer bottles available with matching glassware. Novare also has special food menus for every event they have and Belgian Biere Fest is no different.
Maps
One of my favorite little hole in the wall bar Maps always has something that I like. Not only do they serve superb grilled cheese sandwiches, but their beer selection is on point.
Local beers on tap:
Bissell Brothers Substabce IPA
Banded Horn Veridian IPA
Oxbow Farmhouse Pale Ale
Smuttynose Robust Porter
Over the weekend they have Smuttynose Rye IPA and Uinta Baba Black Lager kegs ready to go once something kicks.
Thirsty Pig
Along with their sausages and hot dogs for food choices, the Thirsty Pig is a staple in the Portland, Maine beer scene. This time they had a few keepers on tap like Maine Beer Company Peeper, Bissell Brothers Substance, and Rising Tide Daymark.
This time I saw Stone Brewing Company’s new Chai-spiced Imperial Russian Stout. This 10.6% ABV stout has the traditional dark and roasty flavors with a cinnamon, clove, and ginger twist to it.
Central Provisions
Central has some gems on today. Alongside the staple Shiner Bock, they have Bissell Brothers Substance, Allagash Tripel, and Oxbow’s new Domestic. Oxbow Brewing Company’s Domestic is a 5% ABV saison that has all American hops.
Cheers!
