After 33 incredible years, Anthony’s Italian Kitchen in Portland, Maine, is closing its doors as Anthony Barrasso, the beloved owner, gives himself a well-deserved 84th birthday present: retirement! The restaurant, known for its Boston Italian (Boston Style for those who know) and the best homemade meatballs, will serve its final meal on Friday, February 7th.
Like many small businesses, Anthony’s was hit hard by the pandemic. The restaurant suffered losses of over $300,000 and fell months behind on rent. In a bid to save his business, Anthony submitted a heartfelt video to Barstool Sports’ Small Business Fund. His story caught the attention of Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy, who reached out personally to share the good news: Anthony’s Kitchen would receive support to help it stay afloat during one of its toughest times.
This lifeline gave Anthony’s Kitchen the chance to keep serving the Portland community a little longer, a testament to the resilience and spirit of small businesses everywhere.
In a heartfelt announcement, the Barrasso family expressed their gratitude to their loyal customers and hardworking employees, saying it’s been “an honor to serve you all these years.” They invite everyone to stop by one last time to enjoy a meal and wish Anthony a Happy Birthday and a Happy Retirement.
Anthony’s Kitchen has been more than just a restaurant—it’s been a cornerstone of the community, a place where memories were made, and traditions were celebrated. Let’s raise a glass (or a fork!) to Anthony and the Barrasso family for 33 years of incredible food, resilience, and connection.
From the entire Portland community, salute to Anthony!
