ViA VECCHiA is set to close out September’s Negroni Month with flair, hosting its first-ever Bitter Ball contest on Monday, September 30th.
This lively event marks the culmination of Imbibe’s Negroni Week and will feature a fierce, yet playful, Negroni competition among some of Maine’s top bartenders. The stakes are high, with competitors vying for a $1,000 grand prize, bragging rights, and a bit of glory in the cocktail world.
THE DETAILS
In the spirit of the competition, bartenders have been tasked with creating internationally-themed Negronis—drinks inspired by how the classic cocktail might look if it hailed from anywhere but Italy. While the rules are intentionally relaxed, every entry must include a base spirit, a bitter, a fortified wine, and a splash of Campari or Aperol. Beyond that, creativity is encouraged—whether it’s shaken, stirred, blended, or served with a twist.
The contest will see five finalists, chosen from anonymous entries, face off at the Bitter Ball. The evening will unfold in two rounds, with guests and judges sampling the innovative Negronis. After round one, two bartenders will advance to a final showdown, where the ultimate champion will be crowned.
The event promises to be a celebration of bold flavors, expert mixology, and a love of all things bitter, while also raising money for charity.
THE WINNINGS:
Prizes will be awarded to the top three contenders:
- 1st Place: $1000 (and of course, bragging rights)
- 2nd Place: $500 (along with a set of steak knives)
