For Your Next Haircut, Check out the Mensroom

SINCE 1611 (1)

It’s challenging to open a salon in Portland and successfully differentiate yourself from all the competition around the city. Over the past decade Portland has experienced growth in many higher-end services, haircuts included. June Juliano opened The Mensroom Salon and Lounge in 2004 and carved out a unique niche in the city by specializing in experiential haircuts, for men, along with a host of special touches to make men feel relaxed and at home the moment they walk through the door. Harvest on the Harbor Celebrates Maine’s Dining and Drinking Scene

HARVEST

Portland’s annual Harvest on the Harbor took place October 21-25, 2015, drawing some of Maine’s top chefs, brewers, bakers, sweets makers and more in a celebration of food, wine, spirits and beer. Organized by the Portland Convention + Visitors Bureau, both locals and out-of-state visitors flocked to the events, with many traveling from throughout New England, New York, and several folks we bumped into who came all the way from Texas to dine, sip and rub shoulders with Maine’s top chefs and alcohol purveyors. Is it Possible for Food to be Fresh, Local and Fast? It is at b.good!

Fresh, Local and Fast (2)

One of the favorite lunchtime destinations for the staff at PortlandOldPort.com is b.good on Exchange Street. The restaurant began serving burgers, salads, kale & grain bowls and milkshakes to Portlanders in 2013 and celebrated their two-year anniversary earlier this month. Their slogan is real.food.fast, but they should also include a few more words in our opinion, including “delicious” and “local” for starters. Sure, your food will take a little longer than at a typical fast food restaurant, but it will be freshly prepared, feature Maine ingredients, taste amazing and be a whole a lot better for you. Fall in Love with the Best in Maine Food and Alcohol at Harvest on the Harbor

Fall In Love (1)

One of the most anticipated events on the fall calendar for Maine foodies and alcohol aficionados is Harvest on the Harbor, organized by Portland’s Convention + Visitor’s Bureau and billed as Maine’s Premier Food + Wine Festival, and in our opinion, rightfully so. Now in its eighth year, this year’s event will take place October 21-25, 2015 – almost exclusively in Portland’s Old Port. And don’t be fooled by the name, there is also plenty of beer, cider, mead and spirits in the mix too. [Read more…]

Hop into a Pedicab and Experience Portland on Three Wheels

Hop into a Pedicab

If you’ve spent much time in the Portland Old Port this summer you’ve probably seen one of Maine Pedicabs’ bright green bicycle taxis gliding by at some point. The company opened up shop here in April of 2012 and currently has a fleet of eight pedicabs ferrying locals and tourists alike to their destination.

Half of the fun of choosing a pedicab over a more traditional travel method, such as a taxi or an Uber, is the experience. In fact, they actually don’t even call it transportation, it’s “transportainment!” [Read more…]
