It’s time for the 2nd annual Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival! This site is your homebase for engaging with all of the wonderful new content we have for you this year. Like last year’s Festival, this program celebrates the voices, artistry, and impact of children’s literature created by and featuring Black people. Just like last year, we’ve been hard at work creating fresh new videos and dreaming up fun activities to help bring the books to life.
We’re giving away even more books this year – over 2,600! We are featuring seven new titles in this year’s Festival, and we’re so excited to introduce you to them. We invite you to take a look around the website to learn more about the books and the illustrators and writers who created them.
Everybody Get Ready, Uh Huh!
We are excited to announce that the 3rd annual Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival (BBCBF) is right around the corner! ✨
From September 17-18th, join us as we celebrate the themes of roots, identity, and resiliency of the Black Diaspora with LIVE events in Portland, Rockland, and Lewiston, Maine along with a whole new selection of children’s books!! All festival content including the educator’s tool kit will be available on-line throughout the entire year and will build on the content presented over the past two years. ✨ Let’s honor children’s book legend Ashley Bryan and the anthem “Black is beautiful,” together!
Stay tuned for more information about this year’s events and the launch of our updated website on September 17th to watch our read aloud videos, explore activities and learn more about this year’s Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival!
The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is proud to partner with the Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival again this year! On September 17, the Museum & Theatre will present a robust in-person schedule of literary and art activities for the whole family, including Read Alouds featuring local community members and art-making workshops. In addition, the Museum & Theatre will offer a Pay What You Can ticketing option for all visitors to eliminate barriers families might face in taking full advantage of our new facility. Members are Free. Thank you to Unum for their generous support and partnership.
