R.J. Miller (Drums and Sampler) performs alongside Jeremy Udden (Lyricon) in this Dimensions in Jazz Performance.
“Electronic music comes in all sounds, colors, and textures, but drummer RJ Miller exploits the ambient side with chilled themes and moody soundscapes. The soul in the machine lies in the way Miller expertly juxtaposes his drum kit with piano, keyboards, and analog synthesizers through infectious melodies that move and groove.” — Mark F. Turner, All About Jazz 2013
“I have always loved jazz and electronic music,” says drummer RJ Miller.
Long a fixture on the New York City and European jazz and experimental music scenes, the globe trotting, Maine-bred drummer and composer can be heard on recordings like “Alive in Japan” (Aaron Parks), “Ben Entrada La Nit” (Bill McHenry), and his own electronic solo debut album “Ronald’s Rhythm” (2013).
Jeremy is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, band-leader and Lyricon enthusiast. He has released six critically-acclaimed albums as a leader for Sunnyside Records (NY) and Fresh Sound New Talent (Barcelona), and collaborated on many others. Udden has made music with Bob Brookmeyer, Steve Lacy, Ben Monder, Frank Carlberg, Matt Wilson, John McNeil, Gunther Schuller, Lee Konitz, Either/Orchestra, and Ehio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke among many others on stages around the US, Europe, Ethiopia and China. PLAINVILLE and HUSH POINT are two of his main projects, though he continues to write and record new music, collaborate on new projects, and dream up bands and records every day.
“This is carefully arranged music with an unruly streak — edgy, melancholy, but also at peace with itself… Is it jazz? Well, it’s not not jazz.”
– Jon Garelick, BOSTON PHOENIX
