Being a foodie, Harvest on the Harbor was an amazing experience. There were some great vendors from all over Maine, not just the Old Port. From wine and beer to seafood and chowder, the best of the best were at the Marketplace. So what was noteworthy?
Vena’s Fizz House represented with three different kinds of soda from their store: a fizzy Peach with rosemary, Cider Bite, and Blueberry Cream Soda. Of course I tried them all, but the Blueberry Cream Soda is noteworthy. I could have bitten into a plump blueberry, fresh from being picked, and had the same flavor intensity! All three of the flavors are available at their Old Port location on Fore Street, along with bitters and countless other flavor combinations that they can create for you.
Piccolo had a delicious and light crostini with cod, chickpeas, and tomatoes served on a fluffy piece of focaccia bread. There was a great deal of seafood represented at Harvest on the Harbor, but Piccolo’s dish definitely stood out to me. I liked that it was lighter in consistency and texture, since a lot of the samplings in the Marketplace were a little bit heavier, like chowders and soup. I can see why people say Piccolo is a place to visit!
Finally, I have to praise the delicious apple cinnamon shakes b.good was handing out. Taking a sip of one was like having fall explode inside your mouth. Cinnamon and apples are a known pairing for fall, and combined with the creamy sweetness of the ice cream, a great way to start the Marketplace off!
Overall, the Samplings at the Marketplace event was an ideal way to spend a chilly Saturday. Surrounded by tantalizing food and drink, anyone who loves food can see why. I can’t wait to go back to Harvest on the Harbor next fall!
