A Sweet Celebration: Honey Week at UNION Restaurant in The Press Hotel
As National Honey Month buzzes into full swing this September, UNION Restaurant at The Press Hotel is offering something extra sweet to mark the occasion. From Friday, September 20th through Friday, September 27th, 2024, guests can experience a special 3-course prix fixe Honey Week menu featuring honey harvested from none other than the hotel’s own rooftop bees.
For over seven years, these hard-working pollinators have been at the heart of The Press Hotel’s commitment to sustainability, providing the restaurant with locally-sourced honey while playing a crucial role in supporting Portland’s ecosystem. Nestled atop the building, the hotel’s bee hives produce ultra-local honey that’s incorporated into UNION’s dishes, adding a sweet and sustainable twist to their culinary creations.
Fun fact: The bees’ water source comes from the Portland Fire Station’s hoses next door! It’s like a mini bee highway as they zip back and forth collecting what they need to keep their hive thriving.
For Honey Week, UNION Restaurant is highlighting this golden nectar with a specially curated menu. Running alongside their regular dinner offerings, the prix fixe menu showcases how versatile honey can be, from savory to sweet. The honey, harvested in collaboration with The Honey Exchange, is infused into each dish in creative ways, showcasing its versatility.
