If you aren’t paying attention, it’s very easy to miss MAPS. Tucked away in a basement at 64 Market Street, MAPS exudes a bit of a speakeasy vibe. If it weren’t for the sandwich board on the sidewalk out front, you could easily walk right by, which would mean missing out on one of the coziest, most intimate bars in the Old Port.
Owned by husband and wife Kyle Tzrinski and Vikki Walker, MAPS opened last summer with little advance fanfare. But despite limited promotion, MAPS has quickly grown into a favorite spot for many locals. The décor is warm and inviting, with a mix of seating including the bar, a communal table, vintage rocking chairs, and even barber chairs. The walls are decorated, as you might expect, with a variety of vintage maps. There is also a record player and lots of vinyl to sift through if you want to play DJ
The bar features a rotating tap with a mix of brews both local and “from away.” Recent offerings included Smuttynose Robust Porter, Bissell Brothers Substance, Oxbow Grizacca, and Sixpoint Sweet Action. Happy hour runs from 4-6 p.m., and all 16 oz. drafts are $1 off. MAPS also features several bottled beer options, wine, and tea, a nod to Walker’s English upbringing. Despite its small size, MAPS offers several excellent food selections including everybody’s favorite comfort food, grilled cheese sandwiches, in a variety of options. Have a sweet tooth? You’ve found your mecca. Walker is known for her delicious homemade cakes.
MAPS doesn’t have a website, but regularly updates their Facebook page with drink and cake specials.
