Monopoly is one of the best-selling board games of all time, having been remade into new editions over 300 times over the years, and in fall 2023, it will be Portland’s turn to pass ‘Go,’ and collect $200.
Game-maker Hasbro and its partner Top Trumps USA (which has no affiliation with the former president) have announced a Portland, Maine edition of Monopoly coming later this year, and are actively looking for local spots to fill their board. All through February, you can send in your own ideas for restaurants, landmarks, museums or any other Portland staples you think deserve a spot in Monopoly’s immortalization of Portland, Maine.
There will only be 28 spaces up for grabs, with the four corners of the board staying true to their classic designs, and according to Top Trumps USA’s usual board design, that could potentially only leave two to three spaces for each specific category (restaurant, landmark, etc.). That means competition will be fierce, with those selected will ultimately having to pay for their claim of Monopoly royalty.
It will be exciting to see what the final decisions are as we get closer to an the official release. To submit your own suggestions, you can reach out to portland@toptrumps.com.
