Slab Sicilian Street Food set to close on October 12th after 10 years in business.
According to an article by Bangor Daily News, Slab has announced the closure of their Preble Street location. Pizza aficionado Steven Lanzalotta opened Slab 10 years ago in 2014, after being let go from his position at Miccuci Grocery Co. Since, it has become a place for people to gather for lunch and late night bites. However, things have become more challenging for local businesses in recent years. In addition to people going out less, and for businesses like Slab, the closure of the Time & Temp building has also led to a decrease in foot traffic.
Maine Public recently purchased the building formerly known as the Portland Public Market, where Slab is currently located. Christopher Bassett, current GM at Slab said he wished they had the opportunity to work with them. However, they will not occupy the building for at least two more years, and Slab isn’t in a position to last that long.
For those saddened by this news, Slab isn’t gone for good! You’ll still be able to find their frozen pizza at dozens of retail locations throughout the state such as Hannahford, Rosemont Market, Pat’s Meat Market, Market Basket as well as others. Visit their store finder here.
