Sun Tiki Studios, located at 375 Forest Avenue, will be hosting its final concert this Friday. Opened by owner Ian Smith in 2018, the venue has been a vital part of Portland’s music scene, offering a space for countless performances from local talents to bands that have since risen to international fame.
The decision to stop hosting live shows comes as a result of increasing costs, particularly liquor liability insurance, as well as the overall expenses of running a live music venue. However, Sun Tiki will remain a hub for local artists, continuing to provide an affordable space for rehearsals, recording, video shoots, and tour preparations. The stage will also be preserved, allowing for the possibility of special one-off performances in the future.
Don’t miss the final show this Friday featuring Boston rock band Vapors of Morphine, with indie-folk singer-songwriter Sparxsea as the local opener. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and the show starts at 8 p.m.
