After months of closure, Rwanda Bean Company has announced that they will not be reopening their South Portland location at 185 Cottage Road.
In a statement made via social media:
“Hi friends!
After much contemplation, we have officially decided that we will not be re-opening at our South Portland location.
We remain immensely grateful for all the memories and stories shared over coffee through the years. We will miss our friendly neighbors and community on that side of the bridge. Don’t worry ….Cape Whoopies, Maine’s Gourmet Whoopie Pie will still be there for all your sweet treats!
We will remain open at our roastery at Thompson’s Point and also at our Deering Center/Stevens Avenue shop so be sure to come visit us there.”
Founded in 2013 by Mike Mwenedate, Rwanda Bean Company offers single-origin Rwanda coffee. Their coffee comes from the high hills of their founder’s homeland, where they reinvest 50% of their profits to help their farmers and their communities. The beans are expertly roasted in Portland, Maine by Master Roaster John Walsh.
Their latest location (roastery + espresso bar) opened at Thompson’s Point in 2021.
