Happy Hour (And Maybe A Haunting) At Sonny's | Portland, Maine

Exchange Your Usual Happy Hour Haunt for A Drink at Sonny’s

Sonny's Happy Hour

I’ve been a frequent patron of Sonny’s for a number of years because, honestly, there’s a lot to love about this restaurant and bar. One of Sonny’s most attractive qualities is their Happy Hour. (I’ve mentioned before that I’m a fan of tasty drinks on the cheap!)

This Old Port establishment is well-rounded. For the fellow brunch-addicted, they serve classics with a Spanish-fusion twist like huevos rancheros and chorizo empanadas on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday! (I often find that while other restaurants have lines out the door on Sunday mornings, Sonny’s is quick to get a table before 11am.)

They have dinner every night of the week starting at 5:30pm. They have a solid Happy Hour from 4-6pm Monday through Friday. Last, but not least, the bar stays open until 1am every night of the week. Horrah!

For those that might not want a late-night cocktail fix, or for the fans of quality drinks for a wallet-friendly price, I encourage a visit to Sonny’s between 4-6pm.

Although other bar specials might tempt to swoon you, here’s why Sonny’s is worthy of your Happy Hour lineup:

You can get a drink and a snack for under $10. I paired my $6 Happy Hour Sloe Gin Fizz with an order of $4 crispy calamari.

Sonny’s has a Happy Hour drink for every taste. They offer $4 drafts (a choice of 3), a $4 House Red or House White wine, and a selection of $6 cocktails.

Seating options! Park on one of the comfy couches in the lounge, belly up to the bar, slide over to a side table in the bar area, or sip your beverages outside on the patio while the weather is still warm!

Location, location, location. Sonny’s is located in the heart of the Old Port on Upper Exchange Street. Its proximity to other bars, restaurants, and shopping makes this all too convenient.

A Happy Hour with history…and perhaps a haunting. Before Sonny’s offered residents and visitors of Portland a trendy hot spot to wine and dine, the building was home to Portland Savings Bank and a swanky steakhouse called F. Parker Reidy’s. According to Sonny’s staff, a turn-of-the-19th-century older man with a large nose haunts the building. Unexplained noises have been reported by guests and staff and one tale tells of a night when every pan and dish fell off kitchen shelves for no reason.
