Suffering significant damage from a late August summer storm, The Greeks of Peaks food truck looks to recover and rebuild their family business.
A staple in the Greater Portland food truck scene, The Greeks of Peaks started their food truck and catering business in 2017 and has been serving their family’s Greek food with their own Maine spin ever since. Open Thursday – Sunday for a mix of lunch and dinner hours, The Greeks of Peaks could be found at their permanent location on the American Legion lawn on Peaks Island, in addition to Portland spots such as Thompson’s Point’s Summer Sunsets.
In a statement made by GoFundMe organizer, Devon Milligan:
“If you’ve ever had food from Nancy and Haley, you know that feeding others is one of their love languages. That’s why, in 2017, they started their food truck business, The Greeks of Peaks. In 2020 they set up a permanent truck on the business’s namesake, Peaks Island, and have been very happily serving locals and visitors on the lawn of The Legion since then, helping serve their community during the early-pandemic’s food shortages.
Sadly, on Friday 8/26, a massive storm came through Portland and caused severe damage to the island as brutal wind tore down trees and powerlines. One large tree came crashing down on the truck, crushing it and the equipment inside. While Nancy and Haley are so incredibly relieved that none of their island staff was harmed by the accident, they now have to look towards rebuilding their family business.
Nancy and Haley are amazing friends and caring business owners, using their platform and resources to uplift and promote other cooks and businesses; this loss hits our community at many levels. Please consider chipping in to help this local business that makes our community better.”
