Don’t forget that you can always check out our Live Music Tonight calendar for the full list of live music in Portland!
THE HEADLINER

If you’re a fan of soft rock, folk, or Americana, there will be few better places in the entire country to be on Friday, March 3rd, than Portland’s own State Theatre.
Grammy-award winning trifecta Shawn Colvin, Marc Cohn and Sarah Jarosz have joined forces for a superstar tour offering some of Americana’s biggest names of the 90s and today.
You’ve no doubt heard Marc Cohn’s 1991 smash hit “Walking in Memphis,” which helped earn him the Best New Artist Grammy in 1992, and any 90s baby has had Shawn Colvin’s 1998 Grammy Award-winning “Sunny Came Home” in their head at one point or another. In fact, both hits have probably been in the head of opening act Sarah Jarosz, a 90s baby herself, who has already racked up four Grammy wins and ten nominations, for such hits as “House of Mercy” and “Call My Name”.
Get your tickets now for what is sure to be a night of amazing music from three award-winning masters of the Americana genre. Show starts at 8:00PM.
LIVE & LOCAL

Kick off the work week with some high-energy hardcore in “The Cavern” at Free Street this Monday, March 6th.
Portland Hardcore & Cheap Life Records brings local bands Koyo, Wait, The Long Year and Gumskab to the city for an 18+ slam-dance extravaganza. You’ll hear some of the best hard rock on the local scene from heavy pop-punk, a la A Day To Remember, to the purest of hardcore. Shake off those Monday blues, or just mosh them out to some awesome local music.
Doors open at 6:00PM, and the music keeps going through 11:00PM. Get your $20 tickets in advance or at the door.
MID-WEEK MUSIC

SUBS is a collection of some of Portland’s most acclaimed and talented musicians from the local scene that have come together to form an incredibly fun and lively cover band whose only goal is to have fun making (as they say) “solid rock for unstable people.”
SUBS hit the Portland scene back in November with a biweekly Thursday night residency at Gritty McDuff’s. Well, with the amount of fun they’ve been having, they weren’t ready to stop just yet, and their every other Thursday shows have been extended all the way through April, including this Thursday, March 2nd.
The music has been pushed back slightly to 9:00PM until midnight, so get ready to really flex those “Thirsty Thursday” muscles you may not have used much since college. The good news though – there is never a cover charge at Gritty’s!
STAFF PICK

With a name like Roots, Rhythm & Dub, there’s not a whole lot to leave to mystery. You pretty much know what you’re in for.
That doesn’t mean these Portsmouth, NH natives aren’t worth giving a listen. The six-piece reggae-rock fusion band have been playing together since high school, just under seventeen years ago. Four albums later, they have solidified themselves as one of New England’s premiere reggae acts, having played with such bands as Badfish, New Kingston and more.
They’ll be at The Thirsty Pig this Saturday, March 4th for a free show, as part of their “Opportunity 2023” Tour. Enjoy a sausage, a beer and some great tropical vibes as you rock out to some reggae on your Saturday night. The music gets going at 6:30PM.
There’s so much live music happening around the city at any given time that we’d never have the time to list them all here.
