First Friday Art Walk will be Friday, April 3. As always, the self-guided tour of Portland’s vibrant art scene runs 5-8pm. You can view the details of the exhibits and participating venues here. Some highlights this month include Art in Our Yard at the Portland Public Library on Congress Street, Australian Art at Roux & Cyr Gallery at 48 Free Street, and photographic exhibit People and Places at Dock Fore at 366 Fore Street.
Sometimes there is nothing like a good old-fashioned pillow fight to lighten the mood and help shake off the lingering winter doldrums. On Saturday, April 4, at 3 p.m., Portland will hold its 3rd Annual Pillow Fight Day at Monument Square. This day of lighthearted fun is celebrated in over 100 cities across the world. The rules are simple – show up with a pillow, wait for the signal, and then…pillow fight! The organizers just ask that you use soft pillows, swing lightly, don’t go after non-pillow combatants, and don’t wear your glasses while engaging in pillow warfare. This event is all ages and while you can wear whatever you want (pajamas are often a popular choice), the organizers will be offering a $100 prize for best costume this year. The theme is spring/Easter, so get creative and channel your inner chick, bunny, or whatever makes you think spring, grab your softest pillow, and make your way to Monument Square.
