Sometimes it’s all about who you know. Got only a small circle of acquaintances and contacts? Get out there and network! One great local group is PROPEL. An offshoot of the Portland Chamber of Commerce, PROPEL is a networking group for young professionals living and working in Greater Portland. Everyone is pretty friendly and welcoming, and you never know who you’ll meet. We’ve met everyone from bankers to blacksmiths!
The PROPEL After Hours networking event is tonight at Pat’s Pizza in the Old Port from 6-8 pm. There will be networking, food, and a cash bar. This event is FREE for PROPEL members and $10 for non-members. PROPEL would appreciate it if you pre-register.

It’s hard to believe it, but one of our favorite local bakeries is turning 20! Come help Standard Baking celebrate their 20th Anniversary in business. There will be snacks, cake, and fun, plus lots of their regular inventory of delicious baked goods for sale. Personally, we’re big fans of the Pain au Chocolat and the Brioche. 11 am – 2 pm.

Who’s ready for a riot? Way back on June 2, 1855, during Maine’s prohibition days, Portland Mayor Neal Dow hid rum from the thirsty residents of Portland right inside of City Hall. When Portlanders found out about Dow’s secret stash, they naturally reacted by rioting and stormed the building. In honor of this righteous rebellion, Portland is hosting a series of booze-themed events this weekend, dubbed the Rum Riots, which run May 30–June 3. One of several events taking place on Sunday, May 31, is The History of Chartreuse with Matthew Johnson, taking place at Portland Hunt + Alpine Club from 11 am – 12:30 pm. Tickets are $40.
75 Market St., Portland.
