The Turkey Day game marks its 112th anniversary this year, continuing the cherished tradition of Portland High School and Deering High School facing off on Thanksgiving morning. First played in 1911, the game has taken place annually with only two exceptions: 1920, when an ice storm forced a cancellation, and 2020, due to the pandemic. Since 1967, the matchup has been an exhibition game rather than part of the regular season.
This season, Portland celebrated a historic milestone by securing their first state championship title in 22 years, while Deering lost in the regional finals.
