Since 1994, Big Sky Bread has been baking breads and sweets in the old Engine 8 Firehouse at Woodford’s Corner.

My late husband, Bill Harris, and I started Big Sky Bread Company with the help of my brothers. Originally a franchise of my brothers’ company, we are now an independent bakery, in Portland, ME.

In 1998, we opened a second location as one of the original vendors in the Portland Public Market. Although we’ve added many new breads and sweets over the years, one thing that has not changed is our commitment to scratch baking and all natural ingredients.

When the Portland Public Market closed in 2006, we created a new public market space with three of the other vendors from the PPM. The Public Market House opened on Monument Square in the fall of 2006. Since then it has grown to include 10 shops and restaurants.

We’ve been milling our wheat since day one and use our whole wheat flour in a wide array of products, including breads, cinnamon rolls and cookies. Our sample board is always full of delicious treats – we hope you’ll stop by for a hot slice of bread!
