Katahdin Restaurant, an American wood fire grill and bar in downtown Portland, has announced that it will be closing its Forest Avenue location this September 2022 with hopes to relocate.
Established in Portland in 2000, Katahdin moved to their current location at 27 Forest Avenue in 2010 and has since been known for their generous cocktails, inviting service, culinary talents, and featured flavors of the world. Katahdin was a relaxed spot for choice American fare such as steak and burgers. Their last day of service at their Forest Avenue location will be Saturday, September 24th, 2022.
In a statement made via social media:
“We had hoped never to have to write this post, but the time has unfortunately come.
After nearly three very stressful years of living with the uncertainty of what is happening with our space in the Portland Stage building, coupled with the stressors of the pandemic, we have decided to depart our beloved Forest Avenue location.
Portland Stage has presented us with a renovation plan involving a new elevator for them that would be placed in the bar area of our current space, and a restaurant redesign on which we had very little say on. The redesign and its consequences are simply not economically feasible for us.
We love the community we have built here — regulars and theater patrons alike — and truly wish that we had been able to come to an agreement with Portland Stage, but that is not how things turned out.
We’ve succeeded in Portland for 22 years because we know this industry. The math on what we have been offered simply doesn’t work.
Our last day serving the community will be on Saturday September 24th.
After that we are relocating and will keep you posted.
Thank you all for your many years of love and support.
It breaks our hearts to have to say goodbye, especially under these circumstances.
Big love from Winnie and Becky”
