Maine Brews Cruise was initially founded as The Maine Brew Bus in September 2012 by husband-and-wife Zach and Allison Poole.

Our all-inclusive tours and experiences provide guests a behind-the-scenes look at Maine’s craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more.

Tour guests enjoy having an expert guide and dedicated driver to lead them to both established and up-and-coming producers. This offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than they could learn on their own.

Over 35,000 people have been connected to Maine’s craft alcohol producers since our tours began over 10 years ago.

Maine Brews Cruise offers regularly scheduled and private bus, walking, and biking beverage tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. Some of our tours are partnered with local minor-league baseball and hockey teams and include game tickets as part of the tour package.

We had a great experience with Maine Brews Cruise! Spencer was super accommodating and made some adjustments on site to make our experience better. Kim and Dylan were quick to respond to emails and answer questions. They customized our tour to our large group. I would recommend booking with them!

Had a quick stop in Portland ME and booked the brewtour. SO many breweries, so little time....even though only myself and husband were the only 2 beer tourists, Joe still showed up and gave us a fantastic tour! Three Strong Spirits! You all rock. Loved your hospitality! Lone pine and Urban Farm, loved your selections and friendliness! We'll be back, Joe! Thanks for a fun time, Sue & Brent

Highly recommend! We did a private group tour and got to explore some hidden gem breweries in the local Portland area. Spencer and John were professional and informative. Perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Pete and Molly made this not just about beer, but about the community and shared experience between the people on the tour. Much love!

This tour run by Jim was full of wonderful historical stories on Portland and the brewing scene. Very glad we got to take this trip and can't suggest it enough to visitors to Portland. The locations were perfect blend of some of the best tasting beverages that we've had in the region. If we're ever back in the city we will be taking another trip.

Molly and Sarah were amazing! They recommended lots of great excursions for us to check out on the remainder of our stay and made the tour a ton of fun! Highly recommend!

The Portland Brews Cruise was an incredible experience! It was a perfect activity for the low-key bachelorette my maid of honor planned. The range of breweries from large to small was great, and the amount of beer you get at each place is perfect. Our guide and driver Spencer was very knowledgeable about the beer making process, different types of beer, and the local beer scene. He made us feel super welcome and was great at bringing the group together. I would definitely go back the next time I am in Portland or another brews cruise city!

Great experience! Joe was an awesome tour guide and Molly was a great driver. We especially loved Belleflower. They have water and chips available on the bus which is very nice

Fun walk around Portland, with stops at 3 breweries along the way. Got a larger "taste" at each of the breweries than I've had on other tours. Knowledgeable and friendly guide. Terrific way to spend an afternoon!

Tom is an incredible tour guide. Wealth of knowledge and a true character. So many awesome stories about historical portland and the breweries. I’ve read a ton of positives reviews for brewscruise and it lived up to the hype. Definitely a must do.

There are not any words to describe how amazing Tom was on our tour. We’re a bachelorette party and he totally read the room. He was AMAZING. We LOVE HIM 10/10 recommend this tour enough.

Tom, one of the walking tour guides, was amazing! The mini-history lessons about Portland itself or our drinks within our tour was cool to learn about, all along the way. Great for groups or solo travelers!

I was very hungover from the night before a let me tell you something.. JOE AND DON AND THE BREWERIES BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE! They were the absolute best and I highly suggest if visiting or live in Portland you take this tour with them. There were 3 different groups on the bus and they brought us all together so it was not awkward. ( Toy Story ladies, Susan and Mike... WE MISS YOU! ) We went to Brissell Brothers (BBB), Belleflower and Goodfire Brewing. Each brewery had amazing options. Thank you for an amazing time and we are all hoping to come back to do it again!THE NJ BBB ladies love you all!

Shorebirds and Steins
Sunday, August 11, 2023
10:00am – 4:00pm

The original BoT Roadtrip! in 2015, our most popular tour returns to Scarborough Marsh at prime time for a good variety of migrant shorebirds. We’ll learn how to identify our common species, and search for the rare. Up to 20 species of shorebirds are possible! We’ll practice identifying our “peeps” (Least, Semipalmated, and White-rumped Sandpipers) and attempt to tease out a rare Western or even a Baird’s among the masses. We’ll look for local breeding American Oystercatchers and Willets, while searching for migrants such as Red Knots on their way from the high Arctic to the southern tip of Argentina.

And not to worry, we’ll take a look at everything else, such as Common, Roseate, and Least Terns; herons and egrets, and who knows what else? We may even get a chance to see Nelson’s and Saltmarsh Sparrows depending on time, wind, and tide.

After about 3 hours of birding, we will be transported to two of our great local breweries to sample their offerings and learn their styles.

The samples are included in the tour price, and The Maine Brews Cruise will supply a light snack and water. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. We also recommend bringing a lunch or additional snack if you so desire. Sunscreen, a light jacket in case the wind turns onshore, and sturdy comfortable walking shoes are also recommended – we will be out in the sun for the duration of the birding portion of the tour.

We’ll be doing all of the driving, so you can relax!

The Boat Trip!
Sunday, October 20th
9am – 2pm

For the first time ever, Birds on Tap! is hitting the water! That’s right, we taking a cruise. And our goal is to find a rare bird or two.

This very special trip will take us across Portland Harbor to the private House Island. We’ve been granted special permission to come ashore and scour the island here in the first peak of the fall “Rarity Season.” We’ll follow well-maintained trails through the island’s mosaic of open habitats, scrub, and young woods. These are great habitats to search for vagrants and other seasonal rarities, and we’ve eyed the habitat from our birding days on Peak’s Island.

While rare birds are rare, we are still going to expect the unexpected. But more likely are regular migrants of the season such as a variety of sparrows, and a growing diversity of waterbirds. At the very least, we’ll have resident waterbirds and several species of gulls to sort through. We are having daydreams of a rare flycatcher!

As we motor across the harbor, we’ll begin to familiarize ourselves with some of the common waterbirds, such as Common Eiders and Common Loons to look at, while you enjoy a local craft beverage produced in the city of Portland.

The beverages are included in the tour price, and The Maine Brews Cruise will supply a light snack and water. Bring binoculars We also recommend bringing a lunch or additional snack if you so desire. Sturdy comfortable walking shoes are also recommended, as are a variety of layers as it can be quite chilly on the water by the end of October.
