A 3-HOUR GUIDED SEA KAYAK TOUR WITH A VISIT TO PORTLAND’S LEGENDARY FORT GORGES

Fort Gorges, a mid-19th-century granite fort surrounded by water, is one of the most fascinating spots in Casco Bay, and it’s only accessible by small boat. This three-hour trip is the best way to combine the experience of sea kayaking on the Maine coast with exploring one of the region’s most exciting historic landmarks.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP

  • A visit to historic Fort Gorges, where you’ll spend 30-45 minutes exploring the site

  • Possible sightings of seals, eider ducks, guillemots, osprey, eagles and all sorts of seabirds

  • Roughly two hours of slow to moderate-paced sea kayaking; appropriate for novices

  • Possible splashing and dripping during the paddle — you may get slightly damp or wet.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • Double (two-person) sea kayaks that are stable, swift and perfect for beginners. Or, if you prefer, request a solo kayak.
  • A brief lesson on the basics of sea kayaking taught by an  expert kayak guide

Curious about Portland’s history with railroads, fires, wars, the underground railroad, famous poets and Hollywood producers? Join us on this walking tour through time!

Celebrating 200+ years of history in Portland, Maine 2020 marks the bicentennial birthday of the Pine Tree State!

Your tour begins in front of Andy’s Old Port Pub and continues for 2 hours through the historic Old Port, downtown and waterfront areas, sharing highlights of Portland’s history since 1820 and as far back as 1632.

The narrative is shared by highly trained guides with a passion for local history, sights and landmarks. They’ll bring history alive on this leisurely, scenic stroll. Some of the locations we MAY feature on your tour include; the lobsterman’s statue featured at the World’s Fair, the home of Henry Wadsworth-Longfellow and his place of worship, the Eastern Cemetery, the 3rd oldest Abyssinian Church in the U.S,, several underground railroad markers, and more!

We like to finish on a sweet note and you’ll be treated to a local treat at the close of the tour.
