Great Wave Sushi

Alex Herzog, the man behind Great Wave Sushi, began his journey in 2011 when he graduated from California Sushi Academy under the tutelage of master sushi chef, Masahiro Hashimoto. Post graduation, his passion led him Los Angeles, where he worked and gained experience at places such as Bar Hayama and Geisha House. He then went on a pilgrimage to Japan to further his knowledge.
In more recent years, he has brought Great Wave Sushi to life: A union of traditional sushi with a modern flare diligently prepared to order by a true sushi aficionado. In addition to his food truck and cart, he hosts sushi classes.
Mr. Tuna chef Jordan Rubin got his start in 2017 with just a sushi cart, and has since grown into a brick and mortar location, and multiple food trucks. They recently moved from the Public Market to a new location, at 83 middle street. From hand rolls, sushi burritos, and classic maki rolls, you can’t go wrong at Mr. Tuna.
Yosaku, located on Danforth Street is a staple in the sushi scene. Yosaku has an extensive selection of both fish and shellfish sourced from all over the world, using only the best quality for it’s sushi. Takahiro Sato started Yosaku in 2003, and hopes to introduce customers to Japanese culture through it’s culinary avenues. Here you can expect to find an extensive sushi menu, as well as other traditional foods of Japan such as tempura, udon and soba noodles, and katsu-don to name a few. In addition to authentic Japanese dishes, you can find outdoor seating on their patio, which features a Japanese garden with a waterfall, designed by Masa Seilko.
If you’re looking for an elevated sushi experience, Miyake offers creative Japanese cuisine including sushi, omakase, and more all sourced from the owner’s farm. They offer lunch Wednesday-Friday, and dinner Tuesday-Saturday. They keep a focus on both delicious and beautiful Japanese preparations, and aim to capture the uniqueness of Japan for guests to enjoy. Miyake has a strong focus on sushi, but if you are looking for soup and noodle dishes, visit their sister restaurant Pai Men Miyake. They focuses on refined ramen & soba noodle soups, skewers, and more.
Benkay is a traditional Japanese restaurant and bar with a casual relaxed atmosphere. Open for lunch and dinner, Benkay’s menu has quite an extensive list of sushi rolls, maki rolls, sashimi, sushi party platters, katsu, tempura, and noodles. For dessert, you can find treats such as mochi ice cream, and fried ice cream.

Not in the mood for a roll? Crunchy Poke on Fore Street is a go-to spot for a burrito sushi – a Japanese American fusion cuisine. Using the highest quality ingredients available, Crunchy Poke sources their fish from vendors and fishers that are committed to sustainable fishing practices. Popular options include the lobster roll burrito, crab meat burrito and the spicy scallop burrito. In addition to bowls, Crunchy Poke also have poke available.
Keg and Kraken is an Asian fusion restaurant which features both a sushi menu, Thai menu, and bar. This extensive sushi menu includes familiar favorites such as the “Shrimp Tempura” roll, as well as signature rolls like the “Red Dragon Roll”, a spicy tuna roll on top with eel and spicy mayo eel sauce. Their bar program features classic cocktails as well as sake, bubble tea, and Thai iced coffee.
