We hate to say it but we are quickly heading toward the end of July! Can you believe it? Looks like it’s time for us to make the most of the second to last weekend in July by getting up, getting out and enjoying this weekend’s long list of events. Round-up this week includes a Casco Bay cruise that’s looking a little ~wavy~, a burlesque show that’s meant to cool us down in these wet, hot days of summer, a birthday bash for one of Portland’s greatest and oldest parks, and so much more!

Friday the 22nd
Wavy Days Casco Bay Cruise | Casco Bay Lines | 12:00 PM – 3 PM
Join Mast Landing, Crosby Hops & the Wavy Days brewery guests on a cruise of the Casco Bay featuring Mast Landing beers & a catered lunch. This three hour cruise will showcase everything there is to love about summer in Maine, from excellent views, to great company, from the ocean breeze, to delicious beers. Your ticket includes food and two drink tickets, with additional drinks available to purchase. Summer is getting HOT and the humidity is making Geno’s wild! And while the bikini babes are bopping and the mermaids are hopping, you can celebrate summer with a campy burlesque party at Geno’s! Be sure to bring a towel and don’t forget the liquids at the bar! Performances by: Katniss Everqueer, Ginger O’ Lolly, Emoji Nightmare and Dr. Vu! Oompa w/ Bensbeendead | SPACE | 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
OMPA is a nationally-acclaimed, Boston-born, poet, rapper, and educator, who is forever representing the queer, black, orphaned, hood kids n’ them. She was named one of NPR’s 2020 Slingshot Artists to Watch and her engaging, interactive performing style won her the Boston Music Award for Live Act of the Year in 2019. Her latest album, UNBOTHERED was released independently in October 2021 to popular and critical acclaim. This album is joy incarnate. What it feels like, what it sounds like, what it looks like, who it’s for, and, most importantly, how to find and make joy a reality in this life even when presented with so much constant sorrow. Don’t stop the party early! Keep the party going with the after-party at Stroudwater Distillery after the Bleachers concert on Thompson’s Point. They will have Champagne Casanova performing live music in addition to great drinks, great music, and only steps away from the venue. Free admisson.
Curse, Video Nasties, Goiter, Nart Boys | The Apohadion Theatre | 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
A night of horrific delight! Not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to become possessed by the various spirits that will be lurking around The Apohadion on this night of delectable terror and music. Your spirit guides for the evening will be, Video Nasties, who are local legends + electro fiends who produce synthpunk as if it was pulled straight from TV static; Curse (MD), a Goth synthpunk duo from Baltimore with expansive, luscious synth work that can quickly turn dark and dystopian at a moment’s notice; Goiter, who offer Darkwave/Goth/Synthpunk/Newwave, A.K.A. music that’s guaranteed to haunt your heart and linger in your soul; and lastly, Nart Boys, who hail from the depths of rural western Maine with a sardonic blend of electronic post-punk, MIDI music, power-pop and dark wave.

Deering Oaks Park Birthday Bash | Deering Oaks Park | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Join the Friends of Deerings Oaks in celebration of William Goodwin’s 200th birthday (the Civil Engineer for the City of Portland from 1872 to 1879) and the 25th anniversary of the Friends of Deering Oaks Park! They will have a fun scavenger hunt in the park with cupcakes and cake too. A family-friendly fun time in the park, so bring a picnic lunch or stop by Queenie’s at the Castle.
Carnisvale | Congress Square Park | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Carnisvale is a collaborative event that serves as a platform for various local artists to simultaneously share their artwork while actively engaging with the local community in a public setting! The event is FREE for the public to attend. Brought to us all by Friends of Congress Square Park.
Hambone – The Organ Trio | The Porthole | 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
The Organ Trio is a more intimate version of Hambone (a 6 person band). Consisting of Kale Churchill on Keys, Ryan Benoit on Drums and Sam Whitman on Guitar and Vocals, these guys have shared the stage collectively with members of Phish, James Brown, The Meters, The Motet, The Allman Brothers Band, and many more. From A. to Beatles ft. Johnny A. | One Longfellow Square | 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Spearheaded by Boston Hall of Fame Guitarist JOHNNY A. and stemming from his passion for The Beatles, this new quartet, “From A. To BEATLES” is a collaboration from Johnny A. and his like-minded musician friends to instrumentally “re-imagine” the music of The Beatles. Tickets here.

2022 Kids Duathlon | Edward Payson Park | 8:00 AM
Portland’s first multisport race for children, The Portland Kids Duathlon gives young people ages 3-12 an opportunity to participate in the fast-growing world of multi-sport racing. The run, bike, run format of a duathlon is fun and approachable, a great race for non-swimmers and triathletes alike. All young duathletes will finish the race with a smile on their face, a medal around their neck, and a boost of self-confidence and pride. DRAGOLOGY is the first in a series of immersive drag shows hosted by Gem Fatale at St. Lawrence Arts in 2022! This first show will feature Raya Sunshine, Chartreuse Money, Mike Hawk, and Minx Money. Flute & Guitar, Music of Latinx Composers – Casco Bay Island Concert Series | Great Diamond Island | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The Casco Bay Island Concert Series is a free concert series, provided by the Portland Conservatory of Music in partnership with our generous sponsors. This weekend’s concert will showcase Laura del Sol Jimenez, an internationally celebrated flautist and scholar. She will be accompanied by Timothy Burris, guitar, in a program of music from Argentina, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Spain. The program includes original works by Astor Piazzolla and Ernesto Cordero and arrangements for flute and guitar of vocal works by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Manuel de Falla.
