The Kiwanis Community Pool is set to undergo a major transformation in hopes to rebuild the facility for future generations, while making it accessible to all Portlanders. The Kiwanis Pool has been a place for the people of Portland to swim, play, and get together for over 60 years. However, the facility is in need of some renovations, and the City of Portland is working with Aceto Landscape Architects as well as Simons Architects to make this happen.
Since 1961, this pool has been a staple in the Portland community. The new Kiwanis Aquatics Facility will feature a new 21st century pool, water slides, as well as pop-jet spray gardens. There will also be an addition of new locker rooms and facility buildings. In addition to these changes, there is a focus on the aquatic facility to allow greater access to Portlanders of all abilities. This means a new ADA focus, zero-grade entry area for those with younger toddlers and mobility challenges. With these upgrades and changes, they hope that it will be a place for all the people of Portland to enjoy.
Right now, they are in the process of bidding for construction, and they hope to start the demolition and construction phases in the fall of 2024. The new pool is set to be operational buy summer 2025. Located in the Libbytown neighborhood, they hope to refresh this space for it to become a lively community hub for years to come.
