Ri Ra comes from “Ri Ra Agus Ruaile Buaile” A phrase translating roughly as divilment, good fun or any sociable activity that improves with fine food, a nice pint of guinness or dram of uisce beatha (whiskey).

For more than 25 years, Rí Rá has been Portland’s truly authentic Irish Pub. Located in the Old Port, Rí Rá is spread over two floors, the upper floor offering stunning 180° views of Portland Harbor. As you enter Rí Rá you can imagine yourself walking through a door that leads you back in time to the peaceful and cozy atmosphere of a traditional pub 100 hundred years ago in Ireland. When you visit Rí Rá you will feel as if you are going back in time, such is the ambiance of the pub. All of the pub interiors were salvaged and restored in Ireland and shipped to Portland. The pub is on two levels, with three distinct areas. We love local and are proud to serve many local favorites from our craft beer selections that showcase just the right mix of imported Irish beers and regional favorites. Our food menu is comprised of elevated pub grub with a local twist. We offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes! We have a dedicated gluten free fryer for all fried dishes. Come in anytime for a pint, some food and some Irish hospitality. You are always welcome!

Sunday Ceilidhe Session with Ross Gregor Adam was fantastic! If you get a chance to visit, ask to have Edel ("Adelle") as your server - - outstanding! Also, don't forget to go sightseeing upstairs. It is gorgeous.

After a bit longer than normal wait to have a hostess seat us, (and then for our server to arrive at our table) the rest of the meal was fab. Giant portion for fried fish and good attention to detail for food allergies. Def sit upstairs if you can as it's lighter/brighter with more of a Maine Sea cottage feel. Food came out crazy hot - I had the crab Sammy and tartar sauce was fab.

Irish Pub, great place to watch sports, have good Irish beer and lots of fun. Quick service reasonable prices. Overall a great place to go. Great place to meet people and have international exchange. We made some new friends here and will come back again.

Stopped by on a quick trip and this place was amazing! Our server Bella was so helpful and fun and made us feel right at home! They have a nice selection or beers that my boyfriend enjoyed and Bella made me an incredible espresso martini and an Irish coffee to finish. My boyfriend got the fish and chips and I ordered the bangers and mash and we ate them so fast I didn’t even have time to take a picture! If I was here for longer, I would eat here every single day as long as we always had Bella as our server. Her service was top notch and I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Grain Bowl was a pleasant surprise. Great taste…would like choice of non deep fried garbanzo beans, tho, for those of watching our oils! Pleasant atmosphere and was a nice lunch for our group.

Great location! Our waiter was attentive. The spinach artichoke dip is delicious! The burger was good but a bit over-cooked. Their drinks are decent. It’s a little pricey but I enjoy the atmosphere so much and being right down town!

What I loved about this place was their gluten-free options. They have lots of amazing choices for celiacs, which I am. The food was delicious and they had some items that aren’t typical on Irish menus, so I enjoyed trying new things. The atmosphere is very much that of an Irish pub, so I enjoyed getting that experience as well.

I highly recommend Ri Ra Pub and Restaurant for the food, cold drinks, service and pub atmosphere. This restaurant does not have view of the Portland harbor waterfront but is an Irish Pub with a cool pub type interior and some picnic tables outside on the sidewalk. It was a busy day and our server was awesome- she brought cold drinks and well prepared hot food to our table. The menu has Gluten Free options which I really never cared about and usually joked about my whole life thus far. But now that my two darlings are allergic to gluten I must take it serious - and so should you!Stay Safe out there and God Bless America!

Thank you, Joel, for such an awesome dining experience. They knew Gluten Free and did a wonderful job. Had the Fish and Chips with Fries. Fries were on the soggy side but the fish was REALLY good. Before the fish we had the chicken bites and those were very good too. Joel made me some Dark and stormys they were tasty as well. We sat by an upstairs window looking over the harbor and enjoyed the sights while eating. Service and food were exceptional. Would go again when in the area. Thanks to all!
