The Maine Celtics and Unum marked the beginning of Black History Month by featuring a unique jersey designed by local black artist Eamon White over the weekend. The design payed homage to Maine’s involvement in the Underground Railroad. The night’s 50/50 raffle proceeds supported the Indigo Arts Alliance, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing Maine-based artists of African descent with access to a broader network of artists of color from around the world.
Cary Olson Cartwright, assistant vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility at Unum, shared her thoughts about the jerseys before the game: “The jerseys created by Mr. White for tonight’s game serve as a powerful visual reminder of the profound impact of our history, the arts, and our community partner, the Indigo Arts Alliance, within our community.”
