As reported back in February, The Longfellow Hotel, Portland’s first independent hotel in the city in over two decades, is set to open in downtown Portland at 754 Congress Street this spring. The official opening date for the hotel has been set for Friday, May 17th, 2024 with rooms available to book online now.
Inspired by Portland’s timeless, rugged charm and the natural splendor of Maine, “elevated, yet welcoming” is at the forefront of the design, as according to their website. “Thoughtfully designed to enhance wellness and elicit joy,” The Longfellow boas 48 guest rooms with interiors by the award-winning Post Company. Rooms feature a “residential-style design” to help guests feel truly at home. Think: wood-plank floors to chaise lounges and armchairs. The hotel will also introduce Astraea Spa drawing inspiration from Nordic traditions, with a dedicated emphasis on holistic wellness.
The Longfellow Hotel will feature two different dining options, both set to open in May as well. The Twinflower Cafe will open Saturday, May 18th while Five of Clubs hotel bar is set to open Friday, May 17th alongside hotel opening.
Overseen by Siobhán & Mike Sindoni, proprietors of the esteemed Wayside Tavern at The Francis Hotel, Five of Clubs hotel bar is inspired by the five-man literary society founded by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and four of his close friends in Boston—who would gather on Saturdays to discuss literature and philosophy. Serving as a sophisticated evening destination, guests can expect a selection of classic cocktails, locally sourced seafood, and artisanal charcuterie. Current menu includes scallop crudo, oysters, tuna tartare, steak tartare, rabbit terrine and more. The hotel bar will be open Monday – Sunday from 2pm – 11pm.
What is designed to be a wellness-centric breakfast and lunch spot, Longfellow’s Twinflower Cafe, will utilize local ingredients whenever possible, and feature a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options. Focusing on food that both delights the palate and nourishes the body, the current menu includes overnight oats, avocado tartine, a breakfast sandwich, a vegetable hoagie, mushroom BLT and more. The Twinflower Cafe will be pouring Portland’s own Burundi Star Coffee. The counter-service cafe will be open Monday – Sunday 7am – 2pm.
