Friday, March 3rd – Kick off the weekend with FIRST FRIDAY! First Friday Art Walk is Maine’s largest free monthly cultural event. Over the years, this free event, has blossomed into a monthly arts and cultural event that takes place on the first Friday of every month (rain, sleet, snow, or shine) throughout the city. In addition to checking out local venues and the community’s unique array of artists, Portland House of Music and Events H.O.M.E. will be throwing a #GoBigforHunger Benefit concert benefitting Full Plates Full Potential. Doors open at 8:00 pm, show starts at 8:30 pm. and bands include Armies, members of Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds, and The Working Dead. Can’t attend the show? The Maine Academy of Modern Music‘s (MAMM) annual Girls Rock! show returns to Port City Music Hall on Friday. This ALL AGES event, as part of Women’s History Month, each month hosts its annual Girls Rock! concert, an event that celebrates girls’ involvement in music and showcases the talents of MAMM’s student rock bands. Port City will be opening their doors at 5 pm and will be showing a combination of solo and full band performances and will also feature the academy’s brand new MAMMOTH Brass Band. Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 at the door and limited preferred seating tickets are available for $20. Sunaana (an Inuit word that means “what is it?”) launches the opening of one of Portland’s largest and most dynamic event spaces, with capacity up to 2,500 and kicks off this Saturday. Sunaana is an all-day sensory experience of music, craft beer and spirits, food, contemporary performance (circus and modern dance) and more.
