This Collection includes properties of quality, bold originality, and rich character, and uncommon details. Each Autograph Collection hotel is fueled by a clear vision, soul, and story. Across the globe, these properties are driven by devotion. Our inclusion is a point of pride. Guests of The Press Hotel earn points in Marriott Rewards.

Magnificently reborn, The Press Hotel is proudly rooted in Portland’s past. The structure we call home was once the Gannett Building, the historic headquarters of the Portland Press Herald—the state’s largest newspaper. While the days of printing presses may be over, we continue to honor our history with thoughtful touches. Be on the lookout for typewriters at every turn, artistic nods to typesetting, and quotes from Maine literary luminaries.

With seven floors housing 110 guest rooms and a gorgeous penthouse, a fitness and recreation center, and UNION – our on-site restaurant – you are sure to love your stay here at The Press Hotel.

The Press Hotel’s historic digs boast oversized windows in every guest room that bathe you in abundant natural light. Go ahead: open them up, breathe in the fresh Maine air, exhale your troubles, and repeat.

All of our 110 guestrooms include: premium cable-equipped HDTVs, mini Bluetooth®-compatible stereo systems, Bigelow® bath amenities, mini-fridges, in-room safes, Keurig® coffee makers, and literary one-liners in the most unexpected places.

We keep a finger on the pulse of the remarkable city we call home. The Press Hotel is proud to be at the heart of Portland, Maine.

excellent rooms and location. Valet operation is the heart of customer service here, awesome team, but front desk was not too warm. superb themed appointments throughout the hotel.

A splurge for us because we were attending a show at Merrill Auditorium. Very nicely appointed room, but small. The bathroom was gorgeous and oversized by comparison to the room itself. Loved the fluffy warm bathrobes provided. Location is excellent, walking distance to many many shops and restaurants. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel. The Union Restaurant itself was closed for renovations when we were there last week but there was still food service from the Inkwell Bar. We did note that reservations were desirable if you wanted dinner (and even for breakfast) but they were very accommodating since we were staying with them. It is a popular place and the bar was busy the nights we were there.

Very clean hotel with a bit of a fancy ambience. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, bathrooms were clean and modern. A subtle but very appreciated touch was the full sized pump hand/body soap in the bathroom and shower (as opposed to the cheap bar soaps that no one likes). There's also a restaurant and bar on the first floor of the hotel. The hotel is located right in downtown Portland, with easy access to plenty of restaurants, bars, and other attractions. My wife and I walked a few miles and had no problem getting to places without a car. Only downside would be the required valet parking that is $40 per day - there's no self-parking for hotel.

Second visit to The Press in 4 months and we love it! Spot on with its branding! Every decor is a flash back to the Gannett Press building. Service is excellent. Clean! Busy bar but not in a creepy hotel bar -kind of way. Highly recommend The Press!Ask to stay away from the city's clock tower😒

Fantastic hotel! So beautifully designed. An old newspaper building, so the name references that, as well as the decor. Well done! Excellent staff from valet, to check in to ideas of places to dine at. Great location. Rooms are top notch, everything well thought out for what you need. Exceeded our expectations! We will be back :)

This has the feel of a boutique hotel in space formerly occupied by the Portland Press Herald newspaper. It echoes its history in the decor but is thoroughly modern in its room and amenities. The staff is friendly, not familiar or forced: we'd happily stay here again.

Excellent amenities, location, and staff in a historic building with a very pleasant, quirky vibe. The restaurant (Union) and lobby bar (Inkwell) are also very good. No in-room coffee service; good coffee available downstairs.

Great hotel, and where we'll be staying next time we're in Portland for sure. The location is awesome to start - easily walkable to everything. The service and quality of the hotel was similarly excellent, with congenial staff and nice accommodations. The room was nicely decorated, and the bathroom was maybe the best I've experienced this year. The bed was similarly comfortable. A standout Marriot property.

Incredible fantastic, incredible location so walking anywhere is easy and well lit. Atmosphere is very unique and impressive, but ......no coffee machine or microwave in room. (updated.... the communication here is excellent and responded to my concerns within a day about coffee machine in room. i will def stay here again and again and again.

The Press Hotel is a cute boutique hotel nearby the waterfront and main downtown restaurants. It is cutely decorated with old typewriters throughout. We did not get to dine in the hotel restaurants but they emailed us before with happy hour specials, one that we had our eye on was the $2 oyster HH!Our room was just across from the elevator which initially worried me but because our room was diagonally across, we did not hear any elevator noises.I felt the room was spacious for a downtown hotel. There were little quotes throughout the room and the bathroom looked to be updated and modern. I appreciated that there was a pump bottle for the body/hand soap by the sink instead of a soap bar. The shampoo/conditioner/lotion/body wash smelled great and the lotion was moisturizing without being sticky. Our experience with the valet was good - we could order the car from the QR code and it promptly arrived each time.As it is a downtown location, you can hear sirens throughout the night. The price per room is a little pricey as it is an Autograph Collection.

Beautiful building, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in great shape, and the rooms are well appointed. Location is fantastic. Gym is good, and kept cool was is very welcome. We didn’t try Union, the restaurant attached to the hotel, but the lobby offering for food and wine is limited. Not a big deal. Overall, would definitely stay again.

We loved our stay. Wonderful design and architecture, it is unique. Comfortable hotel perfectly located within Old Port, most things being within walking distance. The room was great and very clean. Great staff! I recommend!

Wonderful and comfortable hotel conveniently located just within Old Port. The rooms were quite nice. The service was stellar for the most part, although during check-in we heard the person checking in next to us being given all sorts of helpful advice about the area unprompted while the person checking us in was checking her phone a lot before just giving us the key card with no helpful info at all. The rest of the staff was amazing though. The place seemed to be very dog friendly as well. We didn't bring ours, but there were a bunch of cute pups we saw there.

My favorite hotel to stay at when looking for a little getaway vacation down in Portland. One of the higher end hotel options in the Old Port. A modern hotel with a theme based around writing/journalism especially old school typewriters. This place holds a special place in my heart, due to the importance it has played in my fiancé and my relationship. Staying here numerous times together in many mini vacations in Portland. Eventually culminating in me proposing here while staying in one of their suites. The staff has gone above and beyond when I have had specific requests. From assisting in having rose petals strew throughout the room. Also appreciated the complimentary bubbly to celebrate. This place is located near some great options for food and drinks. You'll feel like you are within walking distance of everything you'd want in the area. Or use their shuttle service if it is up and running to get a ride to and from somewhere. They even have the option of you staying in going downstairs to their great in hotel restaurant called Union (must try) or their in-hotel bar Inkwell. Welcoming staff that will always do their best to make you feel at home. Valet workers are always quick and friendly as well. The rooms are kept clean and have plenty of space. Never experienced any issues with the rooms. Great higher end hotel in the perfect location to experience everything Portland has to offer.

I have stayed here a few times before moving back to the area, and recommend this hotel for out of town visitors with similar tastes. Location is great, service etc. Though I do recommend another hotel for older in-laws as the vibe here at the Press is more "hip and cool" than some older grandparents/folks are into vs. more "traditional" where I point them to the also very nice Portland Regency Hotel.

Hotel was luxurious for the price point and in a great location, right at the corner of Old Port Portland. The corner room was on the smaller side but well appointed. One overnight concierge (Alex I believe) was very helpful and friendly. The other staff member during check-in was less welcoming and did not acknowledge Platinum Elite Status.

It is not a cheap place, likely not the cheapest in the area. However, it is nice. The corner rooms feel much more like an apartment than a hotel. From valet to check in to room all was way above average. The burger at the bar is also very good.

Loved our stay here in late January for weekend getaway. Staff were all super friendly. Decor is really fun (especially if you’re a nerd for graphic design!). I was worried about the fire station nearby but think the guest rooms face the other direction so no issues there. Coffee bar is great. Had a Bloody Mary at Union restaurant downstairs where the bartender was super friendly and gave us great local recommendations!

From booking to check out, easily one of the best hospitality experiences I can recall having. Interactions with staff were unfailingly marked by courtesy, respect, and a genuine impression that guest satisfaction is priority one. Found my go-to Portland hotel...stay here, and you will, too.

Great stay at The Press Hotel. Best Sausage and Egg sandwich ever at The Inkwell. Rooms are lovely. Best features: soaking tub, waterfall shower, crisp sheets, wet bar and The Inkwell food.

Beautiful place in a beautiful small city with an old school newsroom theme (I'm dork so I think it's cool ?). Rooms are cozy, and they offer standard upscale amenities. There's a restaurant and cocktail bar, but haven't tried them yet. Service was good.

My new favorite hotel in Portland! Feels like a 5 Star hotel, with a unique history and a super creative design! Very comfortable beds and clean rooms. Front desk and restaurant service was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent (we had the steel cut oatmeal and a traditional eggs, toast and potatoes plate).
