Maine Mead Works has announced that it will be ceasing operations and closing its Washington Avenue location on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023.
Opened by Ben Alexander in 2007, MMW brought the ancient beverage back into the mainstream by collaborating with renowned mead scholars and developing a custom, state-of-the-art fermentation system. From there, they produced a delicious line of different mead varietals to sip and take home at their inviting Washington Avenue tasting room.
In a statement made via social media:
“It is with a heavy heart that Maine Mead Works announces that we will be closing our doors on January 31st. The 14 years have been a wonderful adventure and we are so grateful for all of the friends that we made along the way. Please stop into our tasting room on Washington Ave before so we can offer our thanks in person! We will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through the end of the month as wells as Monday, January 16th, 2023. Thank you all!”
We wish owner Ben and crew the absolute best in their future endeavors.
