The Clam Bar / Royale Lunch Bar on West Commercial Street in Portland has shared what is to be the beginning of the end of their renovation process in becoming a brick-and-mortar.
Opening originally in 2021 as a food trailer by Garrett Fitzgerald, The Clam Bar was the second location of the Bar Harbor Lobster Company located on Mount Desert Island. Garrett Fitzgerald had previously launched Portland and Rochester and Royale Lunch Bar (now Butcher Burger) in Portland.
Seeing the return of Royale Lunch Bar, which offered casual fried chicken with local brews, Royale Lunch Bar will be opening in the food trailer permanently on the property and will serve a cafe menu including breakfast sandwiches, espresso drinks, iced coffee drinks, quick morning and daytime snacks.
Once done, the new deck and OpBox (as shown above) will be home to their 14-tap draft beer box which will feature rotating Maine beers. Fitzgerald has shared that this portion of the process is almost complete. The additional OpBox will home to a large room with an 18’ community table that can be used as a workspace for people enjoying coffees or a place for diners to get some shade or the room can be rented as event space.
Fitzgerald will joined by Tegan Curry Jewelry, who will open a small store on the property and hopefully be the precursor to more micro-businesses including guest food trucks.
For those of you wondering about TreeGull, the Christmas tree market will continue again in November (typically opening Black Friday), offering Maine grown Christmas tress and homemade decor.
Be sure to check back for updates as renovations develop and the opening draws near.
