Coals is different than any other restaurant in Portland. Our unique pizza is stretched over a hot grill to create a charred, flavorful crust that holds imported cheeses and homemade flavorful toppings made with local ingredients.

Our grilled chicken wings are award winning and renowned in the northeast. Sauces are made in house and finishing them on the grill imparts a smoky character.

The vibe of the restaurant is amiable and locals meld with tourists to create an atmosphere that feels like home.

Pizza was great, good flavor and the grill marks + char were niceGot a margarita, which was “inverted”, still tasty but not quite what I was hoping forStaff was nice, and the restaurant was quaint & clean.

Extremely nice staff. Told them we wanted to do a short pizza tour and started with them. Should have probably ended with them too because it was that good. A must have experience in Portland if you love pizza and want to try something you have never had before.Had the heaven scent and the beet salad both extremely delicious.

Best thin crust pizza in town, hands down. Staff was attentive and fun. Attomaphere and tunes made me feel very comfortable. Home run!

First time here but it won't be the last. Wings were AMAZING! Our table of 5 ordered ten just to try them and we definitely wished we had gotten more. VERY thin crust pizza but still able to hold the toppings and it was wonderfully crispy. Service was attentive but not pushy. Drinks, like the food, was creative and wonderful. Definitely the best thin crust pizza in the greater Portland area.

We got take out tonight and all 6 of us loved everything! I took a photo of my pizza so I can remember to order it again! Chicken wings were perfect and my husband’s cheeseburger was delicious. Cannot wait to try Coal’s again soon!

Amazing unique pizza! Tried this place on a rainy July afternoon which seems to be the norm this year. The flatbread grilled pizza was amazing. Had the bee strong pizza along with their mozzarella sticks. Perfect sizing to share. The mozzarella sticks were larger in size than other places. I'm curious if they make their own. Just had that fresh made taste while still very stringy. Loved the pizza! The tomatos they used were sweet which was dolloped on the top giving just enough perfect flavor. Cheese was perfect using that fresh mozzarella flavor. Large pepperoni slices and hot oil gave amazing taste. I thought it would give a hot zing, which it didn't but still was great. We're not beer drinkers, so didn't try beer but had the punch and ginger cocktails. Perfectly blends that didn't disappoint. We hope to go back again soon.

Coals is a nice relaxed option in the Bayside area. Love the be cool pizza and the wings are awesome, perfectly juicy with a nice crusty outer layer. The spicy cilantro wings with ranch was very on point.

Best grilled thin crust pizza I had in awhile. And when we commented on how good the cocktails were. Our server came back to the table with tge recipe so we could make them ourselves at home. 10/10.

Tonight was our first time trying Coals and we were blown away. If you enjoy thin crust pizza this is the place for you. The housemate mozzarella is also incredible in the Italian Salad and Mozz Sticks. Service was also top notch and the decor is great. Did I mention the live music. 👏

I cannot recommend Coals Bayside enough. We had an absolute blast. The restaurant was hopping busy, so we sat at a high top bar window that is not their best spot, but that did not hamper the experience in the slightest. All the wait staff were incredible. They were fast, caring, and kind. Big, big thanks to Nick! A legend among the staff and Coals is lucky to have you.The specialty cocktails were good. We switched to some classic Gin & Tonics eventually that were a great deal at $7.They have a really sweet item on their menu at the very bottom where you can buy “a round” for the kitchen staff that are hard at work in the back. We did this. You should do it too when you can spare the cash. It was sweet.THE PIZZA: can it be praised enough? Probably not. Lots of people have opinions on pizza. Here’s mine: I love all pizza. Look at my last name. Ha! However, I love thin crust as a typically superior pie. NY style is often the best, and it’s often thin. Coals is an ultra thing pizza. Eat in the restaurant if you can. It maximized the crunch. The ingredients were all proportionally perfect, had good flavor, and were clearly fresh. The San Marzano tomatoes they use rock! The thin slices basil was great. If you like mushrooms, get them, even as an add on. You won’t regret it.Thank you for a great night that started not too well at THE YARD around the corner. The tone for the evening was broken straight through by the awesome staff and offering at Coals. We’ll be back. Thanks!

The pizza:That crunch! Thin pizza, with good charring. Light, and doesn't make you feel bloated, but still fills you up. You definably won't leave hungry after eating a pizza. The toppings are all the way to the edge almost, but you still get some room to comfortably grab every slice. The tomato sauce is placed in circles, which some might not like but fits well since the sauce is rich. The cheese is not stringy, at least not in the two pizzas we had, but still works very well. The pizzas are in no way greasy and will still be crunchy by the time you get to the last slice. The apps:Two of us got a plate of the cheesy tater tots to share. They are very cheesy on the top! There were also jalapenos in the mix, so if you like spicy, cheesy, and potato-y you'll love them. They were on the specials menu so they might not be available every time. One of us in the party got a salad and a soup. The romaine salad was very fresh, and the dressing was very enjoyable. The soup was also very well done. Spicy and with a wonderful chicken broth and tomato sauce. These worked well to make an exceptional soup.Atmosphere:The restaurant has a good casual atmosphere. The bar is available if you are just looking to drink, but if you choose to dine in then you'll have a nicely spacious restaurant. The windows are big with tables and seats. The staff is friendly and the food comes out in very good time.Over all, if you are looking for a pizza place with good drinks and a pizza thats different than your regular pizza place then this is your spot! You won't feel bloated after eating it, nor will you go into a good coma! I really enjoyed my time there, and maybe my only concern was that the restaurant felt a little cold for some people in our party. We are also used to hot weather so this a very subjective point and didn't influence my rating. Enjoy!
