Join us for a guided tour of Jewish Portland! We’ll be driving to and then walking through the various neighborhoods of the Old Port where the first Jewish arrivals lived, then Munjoy Hill, and lastly the Woodfords / Deering area. Participants must be able to walk unassisted and stand for prolonged periods.
Our guide, Matt Goldfarb, is a lifetime resident of Portland and retired attorney. He’s lived its history during the past 86 years. The tour will delve into the early Jewish settlement in Portland in the 1800s and trace how the Jewish community was involved with Portland’s emergence in its cultural, artistic, and civic development. Matt will end the tour by speaking of more current events: urban development, cooperation in the religious community and the things that make Portland unique.
