Stuck in burnout? Transform fear into innovation.
Participants will have a hands-on opportunity to put flame to wood. Yakisugi developed in Japan as a solution to the destructive forces of Mother Nature.
You apply as much or as little flame to a wood object, demonstrating the protective nature of fire. Apply additional flame to experience a noetic transformation. Take home your personalized artistic expression. The flame does all the work!
Creative expression is a scientifically proven method to end burnout. Originally used for exterior siding and roofing to counteract the salty sea air destroying wooden houses. Burning wood creates a layer of carbon protecting the inner wood core.
Bring your own wood object or Instructor provided (tea light holder).
Object parameters:
Max Size – 6” x 6”
Material – 100% wood
Wood Object Considerations:
You will hold the wood object with metal tongs. This factors into the weight of the object and shape of the object. Make sure there is an anchor point to hold the object. Round objects are problematic.
You will use both hands at all times while burning. Adaptations and accommodations possible with Instructor involvement.
You have total agency where the flame goes. Applying the flame to the wood object is the best choice.
Workshop is held outdoor. Masks required indoors. Anticipate charcoal smudges on hands & outerwear.
Workshop will run 2 hours. Max 6 participants.
Ideal for:
Start your summer mornings with a silent mindfulness practice at East End Beach. Find balance as you align yourself with nature’s rhythms.
Upcoming Dates
June 18 / July 2 / July 16 / July 30 / August 13 / August 27
Most mornings, we drag ourselves out of bed only to be thrown into hectic and anxiety-filled routines. Join Kaneel every other week for a soothing morning practice where we’ll experience the gradual shift from dark to light and bathe in the first moments of the summer sun.
During each practice, we’ll come together in silence, just before the sun arrives, using the walk along the beach to slowly awaken the senses and notice our relationship to the land and elements. We’ll then branch off, finding a unique spot that calls to each of us, where we’ll sit and observe the movement and stillness of the land as we take in the panorama of the sun rising over Casco Bay. As the sun illuminates the beach, Davinica will lead a group sharing circle, where our first words of the day will be full of gratitude, acceptance, and community. Being present for our sharing circle is totally optional, and if you’d prefer to stay in silence, we welcome and encourage your presence.
Sign up to receive details about where to meet, what to bring, and news about your session.
IMPORTANT EVENT INFO
This event will be held rain or shine.
You’re more than welcome to join us between 5 and 6:20 AM, but please arrive in silence.
Even though East End Beach does allow dogs, we ask that you leave your pets at home unless you have a service animal.
We ask that everyone remains at least 6 ft. apart during our self-guided meditation. During our reflection circle, we ask that everyone wear a mask (regardless of vaccination status) for the physical and psychological safety of everyone in the group.
