The Portland Yoga Project
A full body workout that will hit our deeper stabilizing muscles in all of the major muscle groups. Barre is heavily influenced by Pilates and yoga, so expect long sets of small controlled movements, all balanced by time to stretch. We use our own body weight as resistance in 95% of the class and there is zero impact, making these classes accessible to many bodies and levels of experience.
Yoga mats are used during our barre classes. Please bring your own to class. Rentals are also available at the front desk.
Elly Lovin
Elly Lovin (she/her) has been wearing leg warmers and dancing around the house since the mid ’80s. She studied classical ballet as a child and earned a BFA in Dance from the University of Iowa. Following her curiosity about both the world within and the world around her, she began her journey as a movement instructor in Costa Rica in 2008 and has taught yoga, creative dance, fitness and barre in Taipei, Chicago, NYC and Maine. Elly moved to Portland in 2015 and has worked with The Portland Ballet, Casco Bay Movers, Waynflete School, and in several public elementary schools. As a Maine Arts Commission Teaching Artist, she holds creative dance residencies for children around Maine, and is a two-time recipient of the MAC Dance Ed Grant. She dances and performs with Rose Hutchins/Ballet Bloom Project. Elly is currently working toward a Masters in Dance and Movement Therapy/Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lesley University.
