News Update
Anything from recent closings, openings, and headliners:
- Nominations for Portland Old Port’s Best of 2024 Awards close Monday, July 1st at 12am. Nominate your favorite in categories such as Best Overall Restaurant, Beer Bar, Iced Coffee, Burger, Cocktail Bar and more (over 130 categories).
- Blue Lobster Urban Winery has officially opened in Urban Farm Fermentory’s former space at 200 Anderson Street. Relocating just a few doors down from their previous location at 219 Anderson Street, their new location offers a larger space for events, bar seating and tables, as well as an extended menu with wine, n/a wine, cocktails, mocktails and beer.
- As reported back in February, the Highroller Lobster Co. team was to be opening a new restaurant, Low Stakes Lodge, within Timber’s former location in the Old Port. An elevated steakhouse experience with a relaxed dive bar ambiance and an enticing drink selection, Low Stakes Lodge will be open Thursday – Sunday this coming week/weekend from 5pm – 10pm. They will be taking July 4th week off and having a grand opening party on Thursday, July 11th.
- As mentioned in last week’s report, Another Round Maine has opened at 549 Congress Street as Portland Maine’s first board game cafe and bar. We finally had a chance to stop by and can check out the visit online.
- Sur Lie’s has been mentioned in Wine Enthusiast. In the article, If You Like Piña Coladas—Try Its Cousin, the Painkiller, Bar Manager Travis Gauvin states, “It’s a drink for the beach vacations from the disco era that can easily be a backyard crusher. You’d be hard pressed to find a cocktail with such a calling card today for obvious reasons; you can’t sell, distribute or regard alcohol in a way that ‘kills your pain,’ or cures what ails you. But it’s also a cocktail that has transcended from a time when not many drinks became well-known and loved.”
- Cocktail Mary was featured in Eater. The article, The Gayest Dish on the Menu, ties in Pride Month and the influence and importance of queerness in the culinary community.
- Terlingua, Onggi, Bar Futo, Luke’s Lobster, Hot Suppa, and more have been featured in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Portland, Maine.
- The King’s Head Pub is celebrating 10 years this month. In honor of the celebration, they have teamed up with Goodfire Brewing Co. for a special beer collab: King’s Brew. Available for a limited time at KHP.
- The Porthole has debuted their renovated dining room, which now features a garage door stage access (for live music) and a lobster mural.
- Speaking of The Porthole, the team has collaborate with Shipyard Brewing Co. to create their new house beer, Out of Office Orange. A blood orange wheat ale, crafted just for The Porthole, this ale perfectly encapsulates that “just closed my laptop to go drink on the deck” feeling.

New Additions
- Join Lava Kava on Sundays throughout the summer for Tiki Party Sundays – drink specials, raffles, and music.
- Wurst Week Ever is happening now through June 30th, 2024 at The Highroller Lobster Co., Portland Hunt + Alpine Club, Room for Improvement, and Bar Futo. A summer food crawl celebrating the almighty hot dog, for a full rundown of participating locations and events throughout the week, head to Sun’s Out, Buns Out: Celebrate Portland’s Wurst Week Ever.
- The 3rd Annual Wavy Days Beer Fest is right around the corner. Presented by Mast Landing Brewing Co., the beer fest will take place on Saturday, June 29th at Thompson’s Point. Over 55+ breweries, unlimited samples, live music, food trucks, local vendors and more.
- The Wavy Days Beer Fest After Party will be taking place at The Highroller Lobster Co., starting at 7pm. They’ll have live DJ sets throughout the night, a killer beer list, and unreal lobster.
- Maine Craft Distilling will be hosting their annual SeaGrass Music Festival on Sunday, September 15th. Join for cold drinks, good food, live music and family fun.
