Mavy at One Longfellow Square @ One Longfellow Square | Portland | Maine | United States

At 20 years old, Mavy Ho-Le is undoubtedly an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with in the instrumental world. Her unique styles of performing combined with choreographed numbers makes her stand out from a traditional classical string setting. Inspired by Lindsey Stirling, Vanessa Mae, and the all female string quartet, BOND, Mavy features an eclectic mix of music during her sets (classical crossover, ethnic, dubstep, rock), alongside with provocative fashion that has raised the eyebrows of the classical community. Originally from the small town of Gorham, Maine, Mavy started off her classical endeavors by playing in the Osher School of Music Youth Ensembles. From there, she decided to venture off into the non-classical realm of music, experimenting with distortion pedals and purchasing an electric violin at 11 years old. She started performing solo professionally at 17 years old, where her first ever headlining gig was a sold-out phenomenon at Mayo Street Arts in Portland, Maine. After the success of her first show, she went on to win the 2022 Young Stars of Maine Prize as a part of Bay Chamber Music at the Rockport Opera House, of course, deviating from the traditional classical route of that competition. She has also performed at the Camden Opera House Blue Cafe, the Carnaval Maine Festival, and the Mall of America. Alongside with her solo shows, she also performs in the Syrian band, Bilad El Sham, featuring renowned Syrian rapper, Assasi. She also participates in the Bates College Orchestra in which she is the concertmaster. Mavy is currently in the process of putting together her first record while balancing a pre-med track and neuroscience major at Bates College.

Carrie Nation & the Speakeasy with Special Guests, Saints & Liars at One Longfellow Square @ One Longfellow Square
Mar 9 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

CARRIE NATION & THE SPEAKEASY (CNS) is a high-energy quintet from Wichita, KS, USA. The band, whose sound has been described as “…a stagecoach in overdrive”, has performed their signature blend of strings and horns across 49 states and 9 countries since 2007.

CNS has built a solid grassroots following with their energetic live show and ability to fit on bills ranging from bluegrass to punk; rockabilly to ska.  Thoughtful songwriting is delivered through dynamic arrangements and unconventional instrumentation. Throaty vocals glide over percussive guitar. Mandolin solos melt into blaring trombone lines at breakneck speed, while the upright bass and rock-solid drums churn out aggressive rhythms that carry the force of a Kansas freight train. Psychedelic soundscapes are punctuated by downright amphetaminic tempos and controlled cacophony. Anything but derivitive, CNS has developed a singular style that continues to bemuse newcomers and delight loyal fans.

The band’s DIY approach is evident in their self-recorded albums, self-published music, self-booked tours, and collaborations with local and regional visual artists. A live CNS performance is a loud, fast, sweeping journey to a brand new destination.

Saints & Liars is a Vermont-based Americana band who has been blending their own variants of honky tonk, folk, bluegrass, and rock n roll since 2012. Having remained a live performance driven group for almost a decade, the band inevitably found themselves in the studio in late 2020, to record their very first professional release, ‘These Times’.

In addition to teaming-up on stage with amazingly talented folks like Pappy Biondo (Cabinet), Andy Falco (Infamous Stringdusters), Charlie Rose (Elephant Revival) and many others, the band has opened shows for distinguished acts such as Greensky Bluegrass, The Ghost of Paul Revere, The Mallett Brothers Band, and Leftover Salmon.
