News Update
Anything from recent closings, openings, and headliners:
- Buzz Coffee has reopened under new ownership. Owners Kevin and Hayley Ward, of Portland ice cream shop Coastal Creamery, acquired Buzz Coffee back in April.
- Bar Publica, a new bar, kitchen, and night spot is set to open this upcoming weekend at 82 Hanover Street in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood. This spot features a rooftop bar and. a unique indoor concepts. They hope to bring a new energy to the area both during the day and into the nightlife scene. We can expect from this new opening an al fresco bar, outdoor and rooftop seating, live music, DJs, and dancing. They’ll be open every day from 12pm -1pm. - Portland’s ZUbakery and Norimoto’s Bakery’s Atsuko Fujimoto took home awards at this years James Beard Foundation Awards. Atsuko Fujimoto for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker, ZUbakery for Outstanding Bakery. They were Maine’s only winners.
- J’s Oyster has reopened for the season! Opening day was Friday, June 7th.
- As reported in May, Liquid Riot has sold to Mike Fraser (Bramhall, Roma Cafe, CBG, Paper Tiger, Nosh, and Nosh Taco) and has undergone a brand refresh, becoming Camp Pennant, with a beverage line under the name Pennant Brewing & Distilling. Camp Pennant is set for its official opening on Thursday, June 14th, but you can enjoy a sneak preview during their soft opening all week!
- Dinner service at Bread & Friends will restart Thursday, June 20th. They will be open for dinner Thursday – Saturday, 5:30pm – 9pm.
- Salvage BBQ has reopened after being closed the last few months for renovations on the dining room. The reopening also featured a new expanded menu which features a wider selection of sandwiches, plus, a rice and bean bowl, and salad bowl, and vegan/ vegetarian options,
- Onggi’s new cafe has opened for service Wednesdays to Sundays from 9am-4pm. Located in the back of Onggi at 131 Washington Avenue, this new matcha bar offers more space and an expanded menu. You’ll find brand new beverages and pastries, plus all of their classics too.
- Coveside Coffee celebrated their 3 year anniversary Saturday, June 8th
- Luke’s Lobster celebrated their 5th anniversary of their Portland location.
- Blyth & Burrows celebrated 7 years in the Old Port on Thursday, June 6th.
- Magissa, a new taverna style Greek restaurant
launched by The Greeks of Peaks, was named on Boston Magazine’s list of 16 Must-Visit Restaurants in Portland, Maine. Alongside Magissa is listed Terlingua, Bar Futo, Central Provisions, Lenora, Duckfat, Chaval, Fore Street, Eventide, The Honey Paw, Izakaya Minato, Papi, Pai Men Miyaki, Rebel Munchies & Libations, Regards, and Twelve.
- Check out our recent visit to Oak & Ember, a farm-to-table gastropub located in Buxton, Maine. The spacious restaurant includes an outdoor patio as well as bar and table seating.

New Additions
- Henry’s Public House is now open for Sunday Brunch.
- Portland Wine Week has started and will run through Sunday, June 16th. Here’s a brief look at Portland Wine Week.
- Batson River Brewing & Distilling’s Choptails 2024 is set for Monday, June 17th. A portion of the event proceeds to benefit Maine Needs. A rundown on what to expect.
- Wurst Week Ever is returning for its second year. It will be held Monday, June 24th – Sunday, June 30th, 2024. Details to come but for a recap of 2023, head to Sun’s Out, Buns Out: Celebrate Portland’s Wurst Week Ever.
- The 3rd Annual Wavy Days Beer Fest is right around the corner. Presented by Mast Landing Brewing Co., the beer fest will take place on Saturday, June 29th at Thompson’s Point. Over 55+ breweries, unlimited samples, live music, food trucks, local vendors and more.
Ongoing Events
- Ocotillo has introduced Industry Brunch. Available every Thursday from 8am – 3pm and includes 10% off the bill for restaurant and bar industry folks. Plus, $5 draft beer and $5 Orange Bike Brewing cans.
- Coals is now running Happy Hour every Monday from 4pm – 9pm. $6 well + drinks, house wine and light drafts
- East Ender has updated their Summer Happy Hour and Hideaway Happy Hour offerings.

- Wilson County Barbecue is hosting their Pig Pickin’ Party on Saturday, June 15th. $30 will get you barbecue, slaw, potato salad, baked beans and corn. No tickets needed.
